For two days, rescuers combed the Santa Cruz Mountains, looking for a downed plane and its pilot. On Monday, the FAA announced that the report of a crash was “not credible.” The story began on Saturday, when the emergency air traffic channel received a call that a plane was down in the mountains north of Stanford. The caller identified himself as a passenger and said that the pilot was unconscious. Although there was no other evidence confirming that a plane was down, researchers spent two days searching for the aircraft.
In related news, the Civil Air Patrol reported that it received a call yesterday that another plane was down over the Pacific, but that they determined that it was a hoax. It has yet to be determined whether the two calls were related. Read more at the Mercury News.
