In the four years since it opened, the Majestic All-Stars Cheer Gym in Watsonville has become a local institution. It gave kids a chance to blow off steam and even compete in statewide cheerleading competitions. Just last week, it brought home the trophy from a competition in Northern California. It may be the last time.

As more and more people lost their jobs, it became harder for their parents to pay the gym membership fees, but that never deterred owner Estie Martin. She allowed them to continue, despite the financial loss she incurred. But the bills piled up, and Martin was finally forced to announce that she will be closing her doors, this time for good.

There is some good news though. Just last night, Martin released a message saying that she doesn’t know what will eventually happen. Parents and kids alike are hoping that somehow the gym will remain open after all. And that’s a good reason to cheer.
