Using new technologies, investigators may finally be able to determine the identity of “Pogonip Jane,” whose body was found in the Pogonip greenbelt 16 years ago.

About 16 years ago, the body of a young woman was found in Pogonip Park. Police determined that she had died six months earlier, but they were unable to identify her remains, so she remained known as Pogonip Jane. Using new technologies, investigators may finally be able to determine who she was.

Using a clay reconstruction of the victim, detectives have determined that she was between 15 and 18 years of age at the time of her death, and that she had a distinctive, heart-shaped tattoo on her hand. What is important about the reconstruction is that it means the victim is younger than was originally assumed. This could be a clue as to who she was.

At about the time of the murder, a young man told the police that his sister was missing, and even described a tattoo on her hand. Police claimed then that the woman was too young to be his sister. They are now looking for the man, who said that he worked in Los Gatos at the time, to see if he could help identify the victim. Read more at KSBW.
