The memorial service for Santa Cruz Police Department officers Sgt. Loran “Butch” Baker and Det. Elizabeth Butler, who were shot and killed Feb. 26 while investigating a suspect in Santa Cruz, will be held Thursday, March 7, at noon at HP Pavilion in San Jose.
Baker was a 28-year veteran of the SCPD, and Butler had been with the department 10 years. Thousands are expected to attend the service.
A motorcade of 200 Santa Cruz County law enforcement vehicles will leave Santa Cruz for San Jose at 8:45am Thursday. It will travel from Third Street down Ocean and across Highway 17 to Highway 85 South, then across Highway 87 to HP Pavilion, at 525 W. Santa Clara St. in San Jose.
Vouchers are available for transportation to the ceremony via the Highway 17 Express. There will also be live viewings of the service in Santa Cruz, at the Kaiser Permanente Arena and the Del Mar Theater.
