Former Red Cross volunteered caught with thousands of pornographic images of children.
Police arrested Steve Jerome Hibbett, 55, on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly using a downtown Santa Cruz library to trade kiddy porn. In an ensuing search of Hibbett’s home, they later found videos and over 10,000 pornographic images involving children between the ages of one and fourteen. Local police and the FBI are investigating the extent of Hibbett’s involvement in a larger, interstate distribution ring, and whether he has contacted any of the children in the images. Hibbett is a former Red Cross volunteer, who passed a background check in 2005, enabling him to work in local shelters. Though he stopped working as a volunteer in 2008, he is still listed in the local Red Cross volunteer database. He is currently being held in the County Jail pending bail.
