What has barely made the news is the fact that the firm is planning to lay off as many as 800 employees throughout the Bay Area. While most of the layoffs will occur in Sunnyvale and Palo Alto, Santa Cruz will be affected as well. Lockheed spokesmen say that employees have until Aug. 28 to take advantage of early retirement packages or voluntary buyouts. The jobs will start being cut after that, with the exact number to be determined on the basis of how many take voluntary packages. Read More at the SFGate.
