It took 12 days, but firefighters announced that the Lockheed Fire has officially been extinguished. The fire, which destroyed 7,817 acres of forest and 13 buildings, resulted in an estimated $26 million in damages. There is as yet no official word as to how the fire affected area vineyards. Firefighters are now suggesting that the fire could have been contained more easily if private property owners had been required to clear away the dense undergrowth on their land.
