Students at Aptos High got out of school late yesterday. They were under lockdown for about 30 minutes after a driver being chased by CHP crashed through the school’s gates and tried to flee on foot.
The chase began on Highway 1, when police pulled over Hipolito Arenas, 36, of Watsonville, for speeding. He took off, and sped through the Aptos Pines Mobile Home Park before crashing through the school gates and exiting his vehicle. It was later learned that his license had been suspended for a DUI. He is being charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest and two counts of vandalism. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
