Peter Nichols, an outspoken teacher at Pajaro Valley Unified School District, has launched his own show on community television.
Peter Nichols is well known to the members of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees. As a teacher, he has frequently criticized the Board for its decisions, and condemned the common practice of making key decisions behind doors. But then the Board decided to eliminate the most open part of its proceedings, the airing of its biweekly meetings on community television, citing budgetary restraints, so Nichols decided to fill the gap. He launched his own television show, “Teacher, Speak Out!” on community television.
Describing his new show as an “unfiltered venue for teachers,” Nichols explained that teachers, who “are the most valued players in the system,” often find that their concerns are ignored and that they lack the opportunity to express the issues of interest and import to them. The show allows him to be heard, whether speaking against the Board or on behalf of faculty and students. Read more at the Register-Pajaronian.
