Ralph Peduto, a local writer, actor and director, has died.

Peduto leaves behind a legacy that included roles in Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams and The Rock. In Santa Cruz, he was just as well-known for his work in local theater, his generous personality and his warm smile. He succumbed to leukemia Monday—just 12 days after being diagnosed.

A memorial and “celebration of Ralph’s unique life” has been announced, via Peduto’s Facebook page, on Sunday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial’s Oakwood Chapel on Paul Sweet Road.

His wife, Laura Peduto, wrote: “My dear husband and dearest friend physically left our planet yesterday, but will never leave our hearts. Ralph turned into pure energy 12 days after being diagnosed with leukemia. Ralph was an artist, mentor, student of a compassionate life, composer of music, master of the written word and all things family. Ralph, as you all know, lived his life in a most unique way, always using his heart as a guide. His laughter and love will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. He loved each of you and the memories you made with him were often talked about highlights in his life.”
