Violent crime certainly seems to be on the rise in Santa Cruz these days. The latest incident occurred near the intersection of Cedar and Walnut streets at about 2am Monday morning. An unidentified 23-year-old woman was walking back from a bar to the restaurant where she worked when a silver Prius pulled up beside her and offered her a lift. When she turned him down, he pulled up beside her and tried to force her into the car. The woman managed to elude him and ran back to the restaurant and called the police.

The SCPD is still searching for the attacker, described as a Latino male in his mid-twenties of medium height and with a goatee. They do not believe that the incident is related to a number of groping attacks that occurred in the vicinity over the past few months, since a suspect, Albert Mena, 25, has been arrested in that case. Mena is a registered sex offender.
