It was an exciting week for all involved. After several years of flat conditions, the O’Neill Cold Water Classic blew up big, with a weekend of all the best juice Mother Nature could pump into Steamer Lane. Nate Yeomans of San Clemente took top honors after a fine ride on 10-foot behemoths, while the Santa Cruz Westside’s own Nat Young nabbed the Oakley Pro Junior title for the third time in three years. Meanwhile, pro surfer Eric Geiselman of Florida had his board broken when what he thinks was a great white shark rammed it while he was surfing off Laguna Road, north of Santa Cruz, on the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 5. Geiselman was shaken but not deterred; not only did he compete in his heat at the Lane on Friday, he also surfed Ano Nuevo—the sharkiest of sharky waters—later in the weekend.
