Adam Hunt, 31, who was charged for his involvement in the murder of Elias Sorokin, was sentenced to five years in prison. He was convicted of robbing Sorokin, but unlike his codefendant Kenneth Clamp, he was not convicted of felony murder. Nevertheless, Judge Paul Marigonda determined that Hunt poses a danger to society and sentenced him to the maximum five years. Based on time served, Hunt will be out of prison in two years and three months.

The case dates back to 2009, when Hunt and Stewart Skuba planned to rob Elias Sorokin of 10 pounds of marijuana. The original plan was to use chloroform to knock him unconscious, but when that didn’t work, they hit him on the head instead. According to his lawyers, Hunt then left the crime scene, and Clamp showed up to help Skuba. They decided to throw Sorokin’s body over a cliff somewhere north of Santa Cruz. Despite an extensive search, Sorokin’s body has not been found. Clamp was convicted of felony murder; Skuba’s trial is scheduled to begin in November.
Standing outside the courthouse, Sorokin’s father said that he respected the judge’s decision, and called it “generous,” considering the grim outcome. “But none of that will ever return Elias,” he said. Read more at KSBW and Santa Cruz Sentinel.
