Local police are investigating who poured an unidentified powder into the motors and transmissions of four large pieces of equipment at quarries near Davenport and owned by Graniterock Co. of Watsonville. Three bulldozers and an excavator were damaged, potentially costing the company $400,000. The incident is the latest of a series of attacks on construction sites in the area, which began late last summer.
Graniterock President Bruce Woolpert is hesitant to call the recent attacks “eco-terrorism,” and cannot understand why groups such as the Earth Liberation Front might want to damage the machinery.
