At its meeting on Wednesday, the California Transportation Commission approved a $10.2 million grant to enable the acquisition of the rail line from Watsonville to Davenport. The decision came just in time. Proposition 116 funds were set to expire by the day’s end. Though the county failed to meet all of the requirements for the CTC grant, it assured Commissioner Carl Guardino that it would do so by the CTC’s next meeting, scheduled for Aug. 11. This includes appraising the value of the rail line and passing resolutions that would expand its use to additional recreational activities and freight transport.
