Yesterday the County’s Board of Supervisors rejected a request by Paul Goldstone, owner of the Alimur Mobile Home Park, that he be allowed to sell of individual plots that are currently rent-controlled. County supervisors argued that this is just a money-making scheme, aimed at subverting rent controls, a view supported by some two dozen residents. Goldstone’s attorney responds that he is “in full compliance with the state statute,” and that the move could actually benefit the residents. People who want to rent would be allowed to remain, and anyone wishing to purchase their plot could do so at below-market prices.
The case went to court last year, but was returned by the judge for a second hearing after the county amended its rules. Now that the Board of Supervisors has come up with the same decision, it is likely that Goldstone will take his case back to court.
