The Santa Cruz Fire Department received a $753,328 FEMA grant that will allow it to hire three new firefighters. The new firefighters will fill positions left open upon the retirement of other firefighters in July. According to the terms of the grant, only previously laid-off firefighters are eligible to be hired. The grant will be used to pay for salaries and benefits.
