The problem gained attention because of a showdown with police that occurred in Aptos this past Tuesday. Colleen O’Reilly, the civil process supervisor at the Sheriff’s office, is quick to point out that the incident in Aptos was exceptional: “Most of the time they are amicable,” she said of the people being forced from their homes. On the other hand, she recognized that it can be a traumatic experience even in the best of circumstances: “It’s hard for them to give up and to call it quits.” Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
