The Seabright House on Park Avenue was supposed to be a safe environment for recovering drug and alcohol addicts. Residents are expected to pass regular drug tests, with results confirmed by the house manager. Yesterday however, police raided the house and arrested the manager, Donald Peter, 47, for selling methamphetamine to the residents. Two residents and two visitors were arrested along with Peter.

During a search of the house, police uncovered 16.6 grams of meth, worth almost $1,000, as well as drug paraphernalia, weapons, and $300 in cash. Detectives were outraged that Peter, who has a record of felony drug convictions, could use his position to peddle drugs to addicts. Sergeant Mark Yanez of the county’s drug investigation team was much more sympathetic toward the residents. “It’s extremely hard to overcome drug and alcohol abuse,” he said, “When you have no oversight and the management of the home is selling meth, what chances of success do you have?” Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
