Longtime Santa Cruz City Manager Dick Wilson announced that he will be retiring at the end of July. Wilson served in the position for the past 28 years. In that time, he oversaw the reconstruction of the city’s downtown after it was devastated by the Loma Prieta earthquake. More recently, he has been forced to contend with a declining municipal budget, due to dwindling tax revenues.

Regardless of the many challenges he faced, Wilson steered clear of changing political winds in the city that he witnessed over the past three decades: “My job is to honor the choices they make and do the best I can to take those choices and produce the best possible results.” At the same time, he admits, “I never in a million years thought I’d last that long.” Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
