Thousands of cyclists will converge on Santa Cruz this May 18 as part of the 2010 Amgen Tour of California. The week-long event, billed as America’s largest cycling competition, will be visiting 16 cities across the state, and will, for the first time, pedal across the Sierras and the Sequoia National Forest. Also new to the event will be a grueling finish at Big Bear Lake, which will force the competitors to pedal uphill in a dramatic final leg of Stage 6 of the competition. A total of six new host cities have been added to the route, including Bakersfield and Los Angeles. Lance Armstrong has already announced that he plans to participate in the competition.
