Pedro Gomez, 25 was entering Santa Cruz through River Street Monday morning when he swerved as the road curved. His 1999 Chevy Tahoe crossed lanes into oncoming traffic, went through a fence and retaining wall, and finally crashed into a building in the Tannery complex. Uninjured, he attempted to flee the scene, but police caught him and searched his vehicle, finding pot, heroin and pills there. He gave the police a false name, but was quickly identified as a suspected heroin dealer operating out of Pogonip.
Gomez is now being held in county jail without bail, while police build their case against him. Meanwhile, immigration authorities have entered the picture, because Gomez is also suspected of being in the country illegally. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
