In an effort to save the county $300,000, a county court in Santa Cruz and another in Watsonville will be closed on the third Wednesday of every month beginning Sept. 16. While the effect on municipal staff will be minimal, Sheriff Phil Wowak says the real people to suffer from the decision will be the general public, particularly jurors, who will now have to serve an extra day.

Announcements of the furlough have been posted in both courthouses and will feature in public service announcements on local radio and television stations. Read more at the Mercury News.
