The response to the proposed decision was summed up by David Criswell, who has spent the past four years working as a courtroom clerk: “It really is a drag,” he says, adding that the looming layoffs are impacting morale, not only for the people who will lose their jobs, but also for the employees who will be expected to pick up the slack. The SEIU, which represents the workers whose jobs are threatened, has not yet commented on the proposed layoffs, saying only that it is still in talks with the court administration.
