While the California School Boards Association is preparing to sue the state over dwindling education funding, Santa Cruz County released the salaries of its 400 employees. Among the findings: 23 officials earn total pay in excess of $100,000 for 222 contracted days of work. The highest earner is Superintendent Michael Watkins, who receives a base salary of $159,211 and $6,249 in extra pay for a tax-sheltered annuity.
