The County Administrative Office has informed department heads that they must prepare for another 20 percent cost reduction in next year’s budget. Most affected are likely to be road work in unincorporated communities, as well as community health and human service programs. Rama Khalsa, who heads the county’s Health Services Agency, says that programs most likely to be affected are HIV assistance programs, help for the homeless, and health education. The county has already cut back its support for public clinics and mental healthcare.

More details on the cuts will begin to be released this January, as the various departments begin considering what steps they will have to take in the coming fiscal year. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
