The officer suffered moderate injuries. Both Mang and Armstrong are well known to the SCPD. Each has a long criminal record in the city.
The incident occurred at about 10pm Wednesday night on the 200 block of Jackson Street. The officer stopped a green Dodge Dakota truck with paper dealership plates. He was standing beside the truck, speaking with the 911 dispatcher, when he discovered that the truck had been stolen. At that point, the officer reached inside to take away the keys and arrest Mang, who was driving, but Mang pressed down on the gas pedal and took off. The officer was struck by the door and dragged down the street until he was finally tossed aside, though he says he came quite close to being run over.
It turned out that the truck was stolen and the original license plates had been removed. It was later located on Isbel Court, but Mang and Armstrong were nowhere to be seen. Witnesses say they saw the two leave the truck and get into a car. A search of the truck turned up heroin and stolen goods. Police are now searching for Mang and Armstrong. Read more at KSBW.
