For Zachary, a homeless man living in Santa Cruz Harbor, Krusty the Cat is the closest thing to family. So when Krusty came down with a severe eye infection, the community rallied to help. One neighbor, Chris Robarchek, tried to help. A former veterinary technician, now unemployed, he tried to treat the problem with antibiotics. Later he brought the cat to veterinarian Craig Evans, who determined that Krusty needed surgery. Unfortunately, neither he nor Robarchek could afford to cover the cost of surgery, so they taped a note to a bench frequented by Zachary explaining the situation.
The community soon rallied. Staffers at the nonprofit Save Our Shores, which is headquartered at the harbor, were so touched by the story that they raised the money to cover the surgery. Krusty is now better and back with Zachary, a homeless man who lives by the harbor. Perhaps he is waiting for someone to help him too. Read more at KSBW.
