Santa Cruz City Council met last night for a meeting devoted entirely to the issue of public safety, and decided to relaunch several programs that had been cut because of budget constraints. At the meeting, the council voted unanimously to add 26 new streetlights to Pacific Avenue and devote $86,000 to youth intervention and crime prevention programs: of that money, $56,000 will come from the city’s general fund and $30,000 will come from moneys seized during police drug raids. About 150 local residents attended the meeting.

City Council also announced its plans to hold a second meeting about violent crime on Nov. 23 at the Civic Auditorium. That meeting is intended to educate the public on the measures they can take to combat crime. Read more at KSBW.
