Twenty years have passed since Pacific Avenue was a two-way street. That may change if some city councilmembers and businesses have their way. The goal, say city leaders, is to make it a two-way street in time for the holiday shopping season. Proponents claim that it will make the downtown shopping district much more accessible to customers. Opponents say it will increase traffic, impact air quality, and cause more accidents. Some also say that that it would eliminate street-side parking for their customers, but the city has already assured them that this is not the case.
The plan is to make the stretch of Pacific from Church Street to Cathcart Avenue two-way. Mayor Ryan Coonerty wants to try a test run to see how the public responds to the change. That comes in addition to a two-week study period before the change can be made. Read more at KSBW.
