The SCPD is looking for people who know Richard Werner Schweich. Though he was arrested in San Jose last May and charged with child pornography and child exploitation, investigators now think that Schweich may have been active in Santa Cruz as well. “He had a number of photos of Santa Cruz and it appears he spent a lot of time in Santa Cruz,” says Zach Friend of the SCPD, though he also points out that none of the photos discovered to date depict children. There is, however, other evidence, which will be provided to the public at a news conference today.
Schweich was arrested in San Jose last May for holding an 11-year-old girl in a hotel room against her will and taking lewd photographs of her. An investigation found that he solicited children over the Internet and sent pornographic photos of minors to people by mail. He is currently in federal detention.
