It’s pretty much a no-brainer. Tough and yappy as they may be, chihuahuas have very little chance against larger predators like mountain lions.
It’s pretty much a no-brainer. Tough and yappy as they may be, chihuahuas have very little chance against larger predators like mountain lions. Greg Bojorquez and Jocelyn Marler of Ben Lomond learned that the hard way. Every night they would let Lucy, their 8-year-old chihuahua, into the yard to do her business before turning in for the night. Last night a mountain lion was ready. It grabbed Lucy and ran off even before the dog came down all the stairs. The last thing that Bojorquez saw was Lucy struggling between the big cat’s jaws.
This was the tenth confirmed attack on local animals in the region since November. About 30-70 mountain lions roam the Santa Cruz Mountains, though usually they remain at higher altitudes. Officials warn residents to show caution and not allow pets or small children to wander about alone. Read more at the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
