It seems like only yesterday that “Burn the bra” was all the rage on Bay Area campuses. My, how times have changed. On Saturday in Capitola, the chant was “Buy the bra,” at Soroptimist International’s fifth annual “Bras for a Cause” auction. These were no ordinary bras either. In fact, neither Victoria’s Secret nor a younger, sexier Madonna ever showcased bras like these. They were “art bras,” designed and manufactured by local artists and craftspeople, and they each came with a gift basket full of goodies.
Proceeds from the bras were intended to provide support for local women’s groups such as Gemma, which helps women coming out of prison, and WomenCARE, which offers free support services to women diagnosed with cancer.
