The Santa Cruz County Metropolitan Bus District is looking at which routes it can cut as it deals with a multimillion-dollar deficit. Fare increases are also inevitable, says bus district board member Dene Bustichi, but that will not likely have the same impact as the service reductions proposed. About half the lines running through Santa Cruz County could see cuts and reductions.
One option proposed to overcome the deficit is to merge the bus district with the Regional Transportation Commission. Bustichi admits that this has come up for discussion, but adds, “It’s not a very comfortable thing to talk about.” Read more at KSBW.
