The last big fire in Santa Cruz County was called the Lockheed Fire because it threatened Lockheed Martin’s installation in the Bonny Doon area. Yesterday, the company recognized the valiant efforts of local volunteer firefighters to put out the blaze by donating $10,000 to the Bonny Doon Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
S. K. Gupta, Vice President of Operations said: “Lockheed Martin is grateful to these local volunteers and the firefighters who came from throughout California and other states to mount a heroic effort that saved lives, homes and industrial facilities,” as he presented the fire department with the check.
About 1,000 acres of undeveloped property on the Lockheed Martin site were burned in the fire, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from reaching the buildings. Read more at Reuters.
