A 41-year-old woman was killed in the early hours of Saturday. Police say her live-in boyfriend is to blame.
Last month, SantaCruz.com reported.html about the increase in violence, particularly gang violence, that has been plaguing the city this year. On Saturday, Wensy Sanchez, 39, was arrested in the stabbing death of his girlfriend in her home. The killing marks an increase in the number of homicides in the city resulting from domestic violence as well.
Police were called to the scene of the crime after neighbors complained about loud noises coming from the studio apartment where Sanchez lived with his 41-year-old girlfriend. When police arrived, they found the victim with her throat slashed and her boyfriend, the suspect, sitting calmly beside her.
Deputy Police Chief Rick Martinez expressed his gratitude to the neighbors who notified the police of the altercation. Describing the impact that domestic violence has on the community, Martinez noted that “People need to be vigilant to break that cycle.”
