Wendy Ballen Wire Art Solo Show

Local artist Wendy Ballen will be showing her anatomical wire sculpture at the Santa Cruz Art League, 526 Broadway, August 19 & 20, in the classroom gallery. Ms. Ballen was the winner of the popular vote in the Art League’s 2017 annual member show, Views of the Cruz (A-K). Ballen’s wire sculptures are both technically proficient and humorous. Her detailed anatomical art has been influenced by her career as an acupuncturist and Tai Chi instructor. The work in this show spans the last 17 years and includes life size human figures, a series of dogs, as well as her recent series Zen Bones , a group of human skeletal sculptures in expression of joyous postures.

The show can be viewed Saturday, August 19 from 12-5 and Sunday, August 20, from 12-4. There will be a reception Saturday from 3-5. The reception is concurrent with the Art League’s 87th Annual Landscape Exhibit.
