About Vaqueros y Bandidos: Castro Adobe Open House 2018

Before the cowboys of the Old West, there were the vaqueros of California. Explore a time when cattle ranching was king on the Central Coast, and learn a bit about the Adobe’s historic connection to the infamous local bandit Tiburcio Vasquez. While you’re here, check out our traditional vaquero-style saddle and wooden stirrups — and even practice a bit of roping with the reata (lasso). Other activities include tours of the rancho, fresh tortilla-making in the restored cocina, and kids crafts and games. Guided tours will be offered at 11:15am, 12:15pm, 1:15pm and 2:15pm.

The Castro Adobe is currently an active construction site as the adobe building is being repaired and is open only during scheduled events. Event is free; limited parking (carpooling encouraged). On-leash dogs are allowed in the parking lot only. Events made possible by Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks and California State Parks. Heavy rain may cancel.
