Unlocking True Happiness
About Unlocking True Happiness
Unlocking True Happiness
Keys to Personal Healing and Global Transformation
with Ven. Tenzin Chogkyi
Held on the first and third Fridays of each month, “Unlocking True Happiness” at the Wisdom Center of Santa Cruz is an opportunity for newcomers and old friends to explore the Buddha’s teachings as they are applied in our daily lives, to deepen our experience of genuine well-being and meaning.
“Unlocking True Happiness” topics combine ideas from Buddhism with those from the fields of positive psychology, Western philosophy, and current events. People from all faiths and backgrounds can apply the principles explored in this series to enhance their lives. Examples of topics we will explore in this series are gratitude, forgiveness, self-compassion, the emotion of “elevation,” myths about happiness, and much more.
Ven. Tenzin will introduce the topics and lead brief reflection meditations. Participants will be invited to join in discussion, asking questions and sharing experiences.
Drop in on any session. No background required – just come with an open mind. All are welcome!
About the Teacher:
Venerable Tenzin Chogkyi first became interested in meditation and Buddhism after reading Be Here Now and early translations of Buddhist sutras in the early 1970s, and then in early 1991 she became a student of Tibetan Buddhism. From 1992 to 2000, Venerable Tenzin was director of Vajrapani Institute, co-director the FPMT International Office, and coordinator of FPMT Center Services. She also completed several long meditation retreats over a six-year period.
Venerable Tenzin took novice ordination in 2004 with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 2006 she became a touring teacher in the FPMT, and began teaching in prisons on behalf of the Liberation Prison Project.
Venerable Tenzin is authorized by the FPMT to teach at both the foundational and in-depth levels, and is also a teacher of Cultivating Emotional Balance (a secular program developed by Alan Wallace and Paul Ekman). In October 2018 will complete the teacher training for Compassion Cultivation Training, a program developed by Geshe Thubten Jinpa and colleagues at Stanford University. Venerable Tenzin joined the faculty at Land of Medicine Buddha in August 2018.
