Thematic Garden Planning with Tom Karwin

As part of The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program Digging Deeper series, Tom Karwin’s talk will revolve around the rewards and challenges of organizing the garden around a theme or—more likely—a series of themes, the differences between themes and styles in landscape design, and will include an overview of relevant online resources. There will be an opportunity for participants to describe their own experiences with thematic garden planning. Tom is a lifetime Master Gardener (certified in 1999–2009), and garden writer with a weekly garden column for two newspapers in California's Monterey Bay area (2001 to present—sixteen years!). His columns are archived on http://ongardening.com. He is current president of the Monterey Bay Area Cactus & Succulent Society, past president of the University of California–Santa Cruz Arboretum, past president of the Monterey Bay Iris Society, and member of several garden related local and statewide groups.
