The Klezmatics

In the Yiddish language there are numerous expressions that vividly convey specific emotions and actions. One of these phrases is farshafn a sakh freyd un fargenign, which means “to give much joy and pleasure.” Longtime klezmer dignitaries The Klezmatics have taken this phrase to heart and to the stage throughout their twenty-five year career. The New York-based group blends klezmer and Eastern European elements with a rock band’s style. Their latest album, 2011’s Live at Town Hall, captures their energy and many of their classic tunes, as they propel klezmer into the future.
