About The 2016 Mountain Affair, benefiting Mountain Community Resources

Mountain Community Resources, a program of Community Bridges, is hosting its 31st annual Mountain Affair on Friday, October 21 from 6 to 10pm.

For the first time, this event will be held at Mountain Community Resources itself, located at 6134 Highway 9 in Felton.

The Mountain Affair will feature local drinks and appetizers, program tours through the eyes of the people it serves, a silent auction by Santa Cruz Mountains Makers’ Market vendors, a fund-a-need auction benefiting families in the San Lorenzo Valley, and live music by The Pep Boys.

Appetizers are provided courtesy of Ristorante Casa Nostra, Cowboy Bar & Grill, Bruno’s BBQ, New Leaf Community Market, Taqueria Vallarta, Gratitude Pastries and Luis Murrillo. Craft beer and wine have been donated by Steel Bonnet Brewing, Alfaro Family Vineyards, and Sones Cellars.

Long-time volunteer of Mountain Community Resources, Liz Taylor-Selling, will be honored at the event as the 2016 Green Heart Award winner. Liz was chosen as this year’s honoree as a way to celebrate her leadership, innovation, and commitment to the San Lorenzo Valley community. She has been a part of Mountain Community Resources since 1987, and has run MCR’s CERT Program (Community Emergency Response Team) as a volunteer since 2009.

“The best thing about Mountain Community Resources is that it makes these services available to people in the Valley who would not otherwise have access,” Liz said. “Here, people can talk with someone who knows them, with whom they’ve established a relationship. And that’s been at the center of this agency since the very beginning.”

The Mountain Affair is Mountain Community Resources’ largest fundraiser of the year, making it possible to serve more than 1,200 families throughout the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley community each year. All proceeds from the event support MCR’s parent education, one-on-one counseling, food pantry, clothing, youth probation support and more.

Mountain Community Resources invites anyone from the public to attend. Tickets are on sale for $35 each at MA2016.Eventbrite.com.
