About Stelth Ulvang & Dorota Szuta + Josiah Johnson
Stelth Ulvang never slows down. As the multi-instrumentalist of the band The Lumineers, even on stage he dashes from piano to guitar, from drums to accordion. His music has been described as "raw and whimsical chamber folk" though at times enveloping just a simple folk song. His album stretches his melodies and lyrics, at most with a 20 piece chamber orchestra, but live, he is generally accompanied by his partner in crime, Dorota Szuta. Together they dance around instruments, handing a bass back and forth, and building harmonies on top of trails of each others melodies. Dorota adds a lightness to his ferocity, and other times her violin tears rapidly through their raucous tunes. Inhabiting all edges of the stage, Stelth Ulvang puts on a hell of a performance of infectious storytelling bookended by shouts and murmurs of their many adventures, and explorations with nature, space, and people.
Southern California native, current resident of the Bay Area, former Seattleite, one-time Torontonian, and long-time tour busy resident. Josiah Johnson's immersion in the musical culture of so many locales, as well as his dedication to constant touring, have given him the means to share his music far and wide. But the strength of his songwriting has carried his music far beyond his physical reach. Best known as a member of American indie-folkers The Head and The Heart, Josiah's solo performances highlight a stripped down, emotive, lyrics-first kind of song craft, inimitable in its sincerity and beauty.
