Soquel High School Jazz Band + Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band

The Soquel High “A” Jazz Band is the top jazz band at Soquel High and is an audition only class. The band plays everything from Count Basie to Tower of Power and has a long tradition of producing top local players. Soquel High graduates, Dillon Baiocchi, who now directs the Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band and Nick Bianchini will be featured with the band.

This concert hallmarks the 20 years Jim Stewart has served as, educator, mentor and coach for the Soquel High School music program. The program has grown to its present status of over 200 students under his leadership. He instructs beginning, middle and varsity concert bands, as well as, A & B jazz bands. Mr. Stewarts excellent reputation clearly demonstrates his passion and skills that motivates, encourages and inspires students to learn an instrument and grow as a musician. Soquel High School bands rarely leave a competition without multiple awards. The beneficial environment he provides, has students from all backgrounds clamoring to be part of this group. Jim’s ability to affect and influence our children in a positive direction is awe-inspiring and magical to observe. We are fortunate and blessed to be the recipients of this valuable educator.

The Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band features the top high school students in the area, representing Kuumbwa Jazz at various events throughout the year. Kuumbwa Jazz has been committed to jazz education for over 35 years.
