About Songs of the Klamath ft. Ismay, Nick Jaina & Sam Rae

Songs of the Klamath: An evening exploring the connections between the arts and the environment, featuring Ismay, Nick Jaina, and Sam Rae. The event will include live music, a short documentary screening, and stories about how the natural world shapes the work of these three artists.

Songs of the Klamath is a project created by North-Bay based artist Ismay, as part of her efforts to integrate her connection to the American West into her music. During her years-long exploration of the Klamath River, including a journey on horseback, she has created a short documentary, original music, photographs, and stories to examine the boundaries between music and environmentalism.

Ismay:
Coming from the coastal hills of northern California, Ismay is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter drawing inspiration from the natural landscape of the American West. With an ear for an old-time aesthetic and artistry of indie folk, Ismay’s blends inventive songwriting, ethereal vocals, and dynamic fingerpicking on the guitar. When she is not traveling the western states on horseback, Ismay can be found working on her ranch, collecting the sounds and stories of rural California. From this cultural history comes Ismay’s deep-rooted sound of the New American West.

Nick Jaina:
Nick Jaina is a musician and writer from Portland, Oregon. He has toured the world over the last decade, releasing several albums on HUSH Records and Fluff & Gravy Records. He co-founded the Satellite Ballet and Collective in New York City, which has collaborated with dancers from the New York City Ballet and Julliard. He has composed soundtracks for feature films and plays.

Sam Rae Music:
Sam Rae explores the creative abyss between her classical background on the cello and her magnetic draw to new age folk. In recent years her inspiration has rooted from an un-amplified acoustic 'Pin Drop Tour' around the United States and abroad with Brandi Carlile and a national tour with the illustrious folk singer Gregory Alan Isakov, releasing his latest album with the Colorado Symphony. She has performed at Red Rocks twice in the last year accompanying Gregory Alan Isakov and later Elephant Revival. Her ever-changing style as a solo artist, which is genuinely encaptured on her new release Bring Us to New Islands, blends looped cello, guitar and vocals and was largely defined by her national spring tours in 2016 and 2017 as a solo artist.
