About Science Sunday
No Wetsuit Required: Adventures of a Fish Veterinarian
Come and hear “tails” of adventure from under the waves! Dr. Jessie Sanders will share some of the excitement of her career as an aquatic veterinarian. From electric eel shocks, to giving a sand tiger shark a physical, to getting a piranha to hold still for an X-ray, there’s something for everyone. Sanders is a graduate from Tufts Veterinary School in Massachusetts and a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association. After moving to the west coast, she established her mobile practice, Aquatic Veterinary Services of Northern California, in March 2013. The clinic treats all types of aquatic animals by offering home consultations, diagnostics, and care. In January 2016, her practice expanded to include a hospital in Soquel, California specializing in fish critical care and surgery.
Science Sunday is free with membership or admission. UCSC undergrads free with valid student ID.
Passes are available at the admissions desk beginning at 12:00pm. Doors open to the lecture hall at 12:30pm.
Seating is limited and first-come, first-served. No late seating.
