"Life and science at the ends of the Earth: Researching the Antarctic Ice Sheet"

?
What’s it like to live and work in the most remote and chilly corner of our planet: the Antarctic Ice Sheet? How do scientists and their support teams get there, what do they do once they arrive, and perhaps most important, why are they there in the first place? Grace Barcheck is a PhD student in the Earth and Planetary Sciences program at UCSC. She will be talking talk about her experiences living on and researching the Antarctic Ice Sheet. She will show how humans travel on "The Ice”, and discuss what daily life is like for modern day explorers in the cold, isolated, and beautiful wilds of West Antarctica. Importantly, she'll talk about some of the critical scientific questions that motivate scientists to travel so far from home.
