About SC Chamber Players present Classical and "All that Jazz"

In the “good old days,” classifying music was relatively simple. Record stores had bins with separate, discrete categories which immediately directed prospective buyers to the kind of music they sought. Well, “those days are gone”; for some music lovers that’s a loss, and for others, it’s a definite “plus.” Our program plays to both kinds of listeners. Some of our pieces fall within the old categories and some replace the categories with their own interesting syntheses of styles.

With solo, duet, and trio instrumentation from the 18th through the 20th century, from Baroque to Contemporary, this concert provides a maximum of engaging variety. Along with “cross-over” pieces by Erwin Schulhoff and Astor Piazzolla, we offer beautiful traditional works by Marin Marais, Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Alexander Scriabin. We’re particularly pleased to introduce Santa Cruz audiences to the exciting “jazzical” style of Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin.
