Santa Cruz Word Church: Open Poetry Mic

A project of the Legendary Collective, the weekly Santa Cruz Word Church poetry open mic is a community of local writers who recognize the the power of spoken word as a means of healing and empowerment. They gather every Monday for a community writing workshop, then host a fifteen slot open mic followed by a different featured poet each week.

On the last Monday of every month, the open mic is replaced by a Poetry Slam, a competitive spoken word event where poets compete via a panel of judges, for a slot in THE WORD, a compilation of the winning poems of each slam, which will be published in the Spring.

Now located in the Garden Room in the MAH, attendees have access to the newly renovated Abbott Square, with many food and drink options to choose from.

The night breaks down like this:
4:00pm - Writing Workshop
5:30pm - Open Mic List Goes Out
6:00pm - Poetry Begins!
7:00pm - Featured Poet of the Week
