The 39 steps, a four-actor farce, follows a dashing fugitive, Richard Hannay, as he goes on the run after the murder of a woman, Annabella Schmidt, whom he had only met just before her death. In order to clear his name, he searches for a group of spies who were pursuing her and threatening Britain's security. Hannay encounters on his adventures a plethora of whimsical characters all played by two actors and one actress.
